Professional Development

The Resnick Academic Support Center provides a comprehensive suite of career and professional development programs designed to help student-athletes translate their skills, leadership, and discipline from sport into life after graduation.

Through a combination of workshops, panels, and hands-on experiences, student-athletes explore career interests, build essential professional skills, and connect with alumni and employer partners across a variety of industries.

Career Champion: Season Benchmarks

In 2024–2025, the Resnick Academic Support Center deepened its commitment to student-athlete career readiness by launching a structured Career Development Benchmark Program. These benchmarks are tailored to each academic year, progressively preparing student-athletes for life after sport:

  • First-Year Students: Attend a Handshake career event
  • Sophomores: Create a LinkedIn profile with a professional headshot
  • Juniors: Build and refine a professional resume
  • Seniors/Graduate Students: Attend a Temple career fair

This intentional, year-by-year approach ensures that career development is woven throughout the student-athlete experience.

Career Programs

  • Level Up: A career development, meeting-based program designed to provide individual professional development support to participating students. Through a series of meetings (4-5) throughout the semester, students work with a member of our career support team to advance their career toolkit. This is a personalized experience, to meet students where they are and help them advance and 'Level Up' their career preparedness. The 30-minute meetings are used as accountability check-ins and guide students to continue progressing toward their long-term career goal. Meeting topics range from building resumes, exploring career paths, to applying to internships, jobs, and graduate programs.
  • VERIFIED: An incentive-based career development program designed to motivate students through 5 steps in preparation for their professional endeavors. These steps include approved resume and cover letter, Handshake and LinkedIn profiles, attendance at career events, and a mock interview. Upon completion of the program, students receive a VERIFIED T-shirt, professional padfolio, and access to exclusive opportunities.

Signature initiatives throughout the academic year include:

  • Career Readiness Workshops: Interactive sessions on topics such as resume and interview preparation, networking strategies, salary negotiation, and professional communication.
  • Graduate and Professional School Preparation: Guidance on exploring graduate programs, preparing applications, and navigating post-graduate opportunities.
  • Networking Events: Opportunities to engage directly with Temple alumni and industry professionals, fostering meaningful connections that support career growth and transition beyond sport.
  • Experiential Learning Opportunities: Career treks and site visits that immerse student-athletes in diverse professional environments—from corporate offices to healthcare settings—while showcasing career paths aligned with their interests.

These programs, in collaboration with Temple University’s Career Center, alumni partners, and employer networks, empower student-athletes to take ownership of their professional journey and enter the workforce with confidence and purpose.
