
Dustin Kidd, associate professor and chair of Sociology (CLA), has been named the next director of General Education (GenEd), effective January 1, 2023. Dustin is replacing Jonathan Nyquist, who has served as director since 2018 and will be returning to his faculty position in the department of Earth and Environmental Science in January.
Dustin joined the Temple faculty in 2004, immediately after completing his PhD in Sociology at the University of Virginia. He also holds an MA in English, graduate certificates in American Studies and Disability Studies, and a BA in Philosophy & Religion. In addition to the position of chair of the Department of Sociology, Dustin has served as the director of the Intellectual Heritage Program, the director of graduate studies for Sociology, and the director of assessment for the College of Liberal Arts. He is the recipient of a Lindback Award for Teaching Excellence and is the author of several books and articles focusing on popular culture, the arts, social media, and activism. The recipient of a Faculty Senate Service Award, Dustin has served the university as a member of the GenEd Executive Committee, the Textbook Affordability Taskforce, and the Assessment Planning Committee.
